This recording perpetuates the traditions of singing the Paschal Matins established by the late Archimandrite Matthew (Mormyl') at the Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Monastery, which is not surprising because the conductor, Nikon Zhila, the son of a priest, grew up at Sergiev Posad, listening to the singing of the monastery choir. The Choir of the Sretensky Monastery, featured on this CD, comprises seminarians, augmented by music students and professional singers from Moscow. This gives the choir a powerful, resonant sound, which will be enjoyed by lovers of Russian men's choral and monastic singing. The DVD-size gift packaging contains titles in Russian only.
