This short book by Saint Innocent, Bishop of Kamchatka, the Kurilian and Aleutian Islands, is a classic in modern Orthodox spirituality. Originally written in Aleut in 1833, the book was later translated into Russian and released in forty-six editions over the space of fifteen years. Noted as much for its brevity as for its simple wisdom, the book sets down fundamental goals for daily Christian living and marks clearly the path to follow to the Kingdom. As St Innocent constantly reminds, the way is difficult but "Happy, a thousand times happy, is he who treads the narrow way, for it leads to the Kingdom of Heaven."
