From its foundation in 1487, Patrauti Women's Monastery maintained an infirmary endowed from the Royal Treasury.
The high-pitched roofs and domes of the Romanian Churches built by Stefan the Great ensured their surviving the severe winters of the Moldavia region.
The exteriors of these great stone Churches were often brightly painted, and in spite of weather and temperature extremes, much has survived to our own time of these elaborate artistic programs, as can be seen covering the lower two --thirds of the western wall (the entrance to the building) in this painting.
